Lanzarote

In a while we will be going to Lanzarote for a triathlon training camp. My wife and I both race Ironman Triathlons - 140 miles of swimming, biking and running. More of this later. For now I thought I would post a photograph from my last trip to Lanzarote.

This photograph is presented as a panorama (crop from 35mm). I like the way the volcanic mountains in the background are presented within the context of the lava rocks in the foreground. The looming sky also adds a great deal of interest. On reflection though the mountains are quite small in the frame and the lava in the foreground is fundamentally unappealing - dirty yellow and quite featureless. I can't help feeling that there might have been a better image to be had.

More of My Work

Thought it would be instructive to show some more of my best landscape work so far as background to the future course. I will reflect back on my selections at the end of the course and with the benefit of the course critically appraise these images. These are two photographs I took during my trip to Canada in the summer of 2009.

Opening the Blog

This is the opening post of my blog. I have set up the blog to record my learning log for the courses that I am undertaking at the Open College of Arts. I am currently awaiting the results of the accreditation for my Understanding Art:Western Art course-work. In about 3 months time I plan to start the Landscape Photography module. The photograph below is I believe my best landscape photograph. I like this photograph because of the way the light reveals layers in the landscape. The autumn colours are also very strong and the cottage and road provide some added human interest. The development of my landscape photography will be the primary focus of the blog in the short term.

About Me

I have been taking photographs since I was young boy some 45 years ago, but only seriously since 2005 when I enrolled to study at the Open College of the Arts. I am working towards a BA in Photography. I am a Licentiate of the Royal Photographic Society. This log record details of my projects and assignments during my studies. It also records ideas, work by other artists/photographers, notes on books/websites/exhibitions, influences, discoveries, thoughts, research findings and observations as I work through my courses. You can contact me at keith.greenough@btinternet.com or simply leave a comment on one of my posts.
